V. O God, (✠) come to my assistance.
R. O Lord, make haste to help me.
V. Glory be to the Father…
R. As it was in the beginning…
Prayer in honor of St. Vincent Ferrer.
V. Whatever you do, think not of yourself but of God.
R. Whatever you do, think not of yourself but of God.
V. Our heavenly Father, the Ruler of all nations sent, *
A new prophet, Vincent, the teacher of Christian people. *
He announces to men the approach of God’s judgment.
R. Shunning all earthly pleasures, *
He convinces men of the truth, *
And puts to flight the darkness of error.
V. His doctrines are more welcome than sunlight. *
His word is more ardent than fire. *
Every hour of his day, he works some wonder.
R. Sublimely does he treat of virtues, *
Teaching men how to bridle every vice. *
Eager crowds follow as he preaches divine doctrines.
V. St. Vincent Ferrer, blessed with light prophetic, *
Death, Judgment, Heaven and Hell, *
Thus preaches the Angel of Judgment.
R. He sets as the sun, in the west, *
And surrounded by a troop of angels, *
He ascends to the bright mansions of heaven. *
V. Glory be to the Father… R. As it was in the beginning…
V. Whatever you do, R. Think not of yourself but of God.
St. Vincent Ferrer’s Prayer.
V. O Lord Jesus (☨) Christ, Who willest that no man should
perish, and to Whom supplication is never made without the
hope of mercy,
R. For Thou saidst with Thine Own holy and blessed lips: *
All things whatsoever ye shall ask in My name, * shall be
done unto ye;
V. I ask of Thee, O Lord, for Thy holy Name’s sake,
R. To grant me at the hour of my death * full consciousness
and the power of speech, * sincere contrition for my
sins, * true faith, firm hope and perfect charity, * that I
may be able to say unto Thee * with a clean heart: * Into
Thy hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit:
V. Thou hast redeemed me, O God of truth,
R. Who art blessed for ever and ever. Amen.
Prayer to St. Vincent Ferrer.
V. O St. Vincent Ferrer, glorious apostle, worker of miracles,
and our loving patron, who in thy lifetime didst convert so
many sinners by preaching the Last Judgment,
R. Grant that we too, * by meditating upon the Four
Last Things, * Death, Judgment, Heaven and Hell *
may be enabled to obtain from Almighty God *
through thine intercession * the healing of all our
spiritual maladies.
V. Let thy heart be tender toward us, O mighty Saint:
R. Stretch forth thy hand over us, * and obtain for us
those graces * for the welfare of both soul and body,
* which thou knowest we so earnestly need. * We
ask of thee to receive our humble prayer for *
V. [State the Novena’s Intentions]
R. And by thy mighty merits, * intercede for us before
the throne of Almighty God * that by His grace and
blessing * we may ever labor for * the recovery and
restoration of our true Catholic Faith * in doctrine,
liturgy, morals, devotions, and spiritual practices, *
for the increase of Christ’s social and universal
kingship * and for the preparation of the glorious
triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
V. Let us pray.
O God, who didst vouchsafe to glorify Thy Church by the merits and preaching of Saint Vincent Ferrer, Thy Confessor: grant us Thy servants that we may be taught by his example, and be delivered by his patronage from all adversities. We ask this through Christ our Lord. R. Amen.
V. In the Name (✠) of the Father… R. Amen.
